What is a meta tag?
A meta tag is an HTML element placed in the header of a web page to provide information about the content of the page. For social media, using specific meta tags such as Open Graph meta tags or Twitter Cards helps optimize the look and feel of shared links, including engaging titles, descriptions, and images, which can increase the engagement and impact of social media posts.
The most relevant meta tags you’ll need to check are the OG title, description, and image meta tags. These tags will specify the title, description, and thumbnail (image) of your link, so if any of the tags are missing, the link won’t load accordingly.
How do I check meta tags?
When sharing a link to social networks, you want to make sure that the link has the appropriate OG meta tags, so that the specific network can load the link correctly.
Major social networks, like Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter, have their own tool that you can use to check meta tags.

While these tools help you check meta tags, they don’t 100% guarantee that a website will allow Dailyfy to retrieve the link and load it properly.

Important
- If on the various preview sites the meta tags and the link preview, cannot load a thumbnail for your link, Dailyfy will not be able to do much, because the respective meta tags are missing from the site.
- Meta tags are used to specify the link preview, such as the title, description, and image. They are crucial if you want the link to display correctly when shared on social media.
- A link with the correctly specified image tags would have this: <meta property=”og:image” content=”link_here”. If the link is missing and the og:image tag is empty, it means that the thumbnail will not load, since the image link is missing.
- If your link doesn’t generate a preview, you need to add the meta tags to your website (you need to get in touch with your webmaster)
